Disability Advocacy

Disability Advocacy

We want individuals with disabilities to receive fair treatment in the workplace, equal access to public spaces and services, and appropriate educational accommodations. Our attorneys are well-versed in laws such as the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Rehabilitation Act, and other pertinent federal and state statutes that impact the lives of disabled persons, including employment, accessibility, education, and discrimination.

How We Can Help

We assist individuals with physical, intellectual, or emotional disabilities in applying for or appealing the denial or termination of public benefits such as Social Security/Social Security Disability (SSD) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI), housing discrimination, rehabilitation programs, transportation, and employment.

Additionally, we assist clients who suffer from mental illness with its broad array of legal services. Many will be fighting to secure lost benefits that were waived during the pandemic but needed more than ever to cope with the ongoing issues exacerbated by being home alone.

What You Can Expect from LSHV

At LSHV, we play a crucial role in disability advocacy by fostering community support and enhancing the visibility of disability issues that are often deeply embedded in our local communities. Our goal is to protect your rights and to raise awareness about the barriers that disabled people face, such as accessibility issues in public infrastructure or discrimination in the workplace. We provide practical support to individuals with disabilities, such as transportation, adaptive technology, and assistance with daily tasks, thereby directly improving your quality of life and independence.

Additionally, LSHV acts as a powerful collective voice advocating for systemic change. Through lobbying efforts, policy recommendations, and partnerships with other organizations, we strive to influence local and national policies to be more inclusive of disabled individuals. This advocacy can lead to improved legislation around accessibility standards, better funding for disability services, and more robust anti-discrimination laws.
